William Warburton, Prior Park, to Mercy Doddridge, Northampton, 6 May 1756.
Good Madm
I think my self much honour’d by the favour of your obliging Letter of the 19th past, which I received this morning. Mr Allen joins with me in returning you our best thanks for the valuable present of our Friend Dr Doddridge’s Hymns.
We have received the last Volumes of the Family Expositor, and have turned them over with great pleasure. They are full of all that piety, moderation, & good sense which so eminently distinguished the Character of our Friend.
We hope the subscription answered the uses of the Family, in some measure correspondent to the service this excellent work will do the public.
Mr Allen & I desire you to believe that we shall always be glad of any opportunity of service, which may manifest our real regard to your & to your Family’s interests.
I am Madm, with the best wishes for your health & happiness,
Your most obedient & faithfull humble Servant
W. Warburton

P. S. My wife & Mrs Allen desire their best respects
